What is the difference between cast steel and cast iron of idler wheel assembly

The difference between steel castings and iron castings:

Steel and iron are relatively common metals. In order to meet the application needs of different places, manufacturers will process them differently, and cast steel and cast iron are thus produced.

  1. Brightness is different. Cast steel is brighter, while cast iron is gray and dark. Among them, gray iron and ductile iron in cast iron have different brightness, the former is darker than the latter.

  2. The particles are different. Whether cast iron is gray iron or ductile iron, particles can be seen, and the particles of gray iron are larger; the cast steel produced by the foundry is very dense, and the particles on it are generally invisible to the naked eye.

  3. The sound is different. Steel castings will make a “just” sound when they collide, but cast iron is different.

  4. Gas cutting is different. The surface of cast steel is relatively rough, with a large riser and gate area, which requires gas cutting to remove, but gas cutting does not work on cast iron.

  5. Different toughness. The toughness of cast iron is slightly poor, the thin-walled parts can bend at 20-30 degrees, and the gray iron has no toughness; the toughness of the steel castings produced by the foundry is close to that of the steel plate, which is better than that of the cast iron.
